Kleptomania is an impulse control disorder characterized by a recurrent failure to resist urges to steal items that are not needed for personal use or financial gain. Individuals experience rising tension before the theft and a sense of relief or pleasure during or immediately after. The stolen items are often discarded, given away, or hoarded.
